Sample 7-Day Family Meal Plan
A week of meals, planned around your table.

Household of 4 $275 weekly budget Blood-sugar safe for Adult 1 Fuel for two teen athletes
How this plan feeds everyone. The dinners are built blood-sugar-smart for the adult managing blood sugar — but the teen athletes need more fuel, not less. Look for the TEEN notes: that's where the active kids get extra rice, fruit, or a bigger portion. Adult 1 keeps the smaller, lower-carb version of the same meal. One dinner, two portion sizes. Nobody cooks twice.

How it works

Three rules that make it simple

1

One meal, scaled per person

Everyone eats the same dinner. Adult 1 gets the blood-sugar portion (smaller carbs, more vegetables); the teens get bigger servings and extra carbs to match how much they burn at practice.

2

The blood-sugar rule, for Adult 1

White rice, white bread, and instant oats spike blood sugar fast. Adult 1's plate swaps in brown rice, oats, and vegetables. The teens can have the regular versions — they're working it off.

3

Batch on Sunday, fast all week

One hour Sunday means weeknight dinners are 15–20 minutes. Prep once, eat well for seven days.

Scrambled or fried eggs for everyone, with whatever fruit remains. A relaxed start before the week resets.
Then
Shop and start again
Run your grocery list, do Sunday prep, and you're set for another full week.

For the teen athletes

A note on growing, active kids

Teen athletes need carbs around practice — fruit, rice, oats, and whole-grain bread before and after training help recovery. Don't put growing, active teens on Adult 1's lower-carb portions. The blood-sugar swaps are for Adult 1; the kids just need more of the real thing, timed around their sport.
